Brief description of the Research Team / Research Group / Department
The Stratospheric and Tropospheric REsearch And Modeling (STREAM) group is a research team at Universidad Complutense de Madrid devoted to the analysis and modeling of the atmospheric circulation and climate variability. Currently, the group has about ten members, including permanent staff, post-doctoral and PhD students, with an intense international activity and a dense network of collaborations. We have more than 10 years" experience in the field. The research activity of STREAM is organized around four main topics: climate reconstruction in the last 500 years, tropospheric climate variability, dynamics of the middle atmosphere and extreme events. Further information can be found at http://stream-ucm.es.
Research lines / projects proposed
Analysis of extreme events from a long term perspective. We analyze climate and weather extreme events from different perspectives based on modeled, observed and reconstructed data and tools developed in our group. We focus on droughts, heatwaves and storms in the past, present and future, investigating their underlying physical mechanisms and impacts on human and societies. We also study extreme episodes occurring in the stratosphere with high-impact on surface climate.
