The Department of Applied Sociology at Complutense University of Madrid is a dynamic and multidisciplinary academic space that fosters cutting-edge research in contemporary sociological issues. Established in 2018, the department integrates prominent research lines, building upon the legacy of distinguished academics who played a key role in the institutionalization of sociology in Spain. Today, the department continues this tradition by incorporating scholars with national and international recognition across diverse sociological fields. With offices in multiple faculties, the department actively collaborates with various academic disciplines and contributes to sociological research and education across more than a dozen faculties.
Within this framework, MOVICON (Research Group on Contentious Politics and Social Movements) examines collective action from a broad perspective, encompassing social movements, protest cycles, and other forms of political struggle, including revolutions, armed conflicts, democratization processes, and electoral politics. By combining qualitative and quantitative methodologies, the group contributes to the understanding of contemporary political and social transformations, with a focus on both historical perspectives and current global challenges. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work on ongoing projects collaborate with leading scholars in the field, and engage in international research networks. Our department provides a stimulating academic environment, access to extensive research resources, and support for career development.
About Professor Rubén Díez García
Dr. Rubén Díez García is a Professor at the Department of Applied Sociology at Complutense University of Madrid and a member of the MOVICON Research Group. His research focuses on civil society, social movements, civic culture, and youth engagement, aligning with the broader objectives of both the department and the research group. In this framework, he expresses his interest in supporting MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships, providing mentorship and collaboration opportunities for postdoctoral researchers aiming to develop their careers in the fields of political sociology, social movements, and civic engagement.
