Brief description of the Research Team / Research Group / Department
The group BIOMIL (BIOphysics of Membranes and Interfaces (Lipid/protein)), within the consortium BIOPHYS-Hub (Biophysics for Biomedicine and Biotechnology), has spent more than 30 years studying the molecular and biophysical mechanisms at the respiratory surface, and particularly, the structure-function determinants of the pulmonary surfactant system, in health and disease. It has received funding uninterruptedly during all these years, from national and international sources, including EC, NATO and NIH projects, and is currently collaborating with several pharmaceutical companies interested in developing therapeutic products for respiratory medicine.
Research lines / projects proposed
1. Structure-function determinants of the pulmonary surfactant system in health and disease.
2. Production of novel humanized therapeutic pulmonary surfactants for the treatment of respiratory pathologies.
2. Development of enhanced strategies for inhaled drug delivery.
