Brief description of the Research Team / Research Group / Department
Research Group on the Application of International Law (APLIDERINT): The UCM Research Group 971007 APLIDERINT is a multidisciplinary group composed of outstanding researchers from various areas of Public Law, particularly Public International Law and International Relations, European Union Law, Criminal Law, and Administrative Law. The Group's research focuses on the mechanisms for the application of International Law, and consequently also on its non-application. Since International Law is ultimately state law, the involvement of other legal disciplines or of International Relations, beyond International Law itself, is naturally reflected in the Group’s work. The Group is led by Professor Elena Conde Pérez. https://www.ucm.es/apliderint/
Research lines / projects proposed
Polar Law: Elena Conde Pérez leads a research line at ICEI focused on polar studies, emphasizing the strategic importance of the Arctic and Antarctica in the context of global geopolitics. This multidisciplinary approach, with a special focus on the Social Sciences and Law, explores polar governance systems, applicable legal regimes, environmental challenges, and the implications of unsustainable resource use in these regions. The aim is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by the polar regions in an interconnected and constantly changing world.
