The Complutense Institute of International Studies (ICEI) is a multidisciplinary research institute at the Complutense University of Madrid, founded in 1997. Since its establishment, ICEI has become a leading center for advanced research in international studies, focusing on a wide range of global issues.
Our primary mission is to advance and disseminate the academic and scientific endeavors of the Complutense University of Madrid, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration across diverse fields such as international relations, political science, economics, and more. Through our research, scholarly publications, and academic initiatives, ICEI aims to contribute significantly to the global intellectual community and to strengthen the university’s presence in key international policy discussions.
Xira Ruiz-Campillo is a researcher at the Complutense Institute for International Studies (ICEI) and professor in the Department of International Relations and Global History at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). She holds a PhD in International Relations from the UCM. Her research focuses on European leadership, the role of cities in the international environmental regime, crisis management, and the relationship between the environment and security. She has been a visiting fellow at the Urban Institute (University of Sheffield) and the School of International Relations (Rosario National University, Argentina). Her previous professional experience includes working in the Field Safety and Security Division at the UNHCR Headquarters in Geneva, as well as serving as an analyst for the Spanish Defense Staff (EMAD) and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
