Brief description of the Research Team / Research Group / Department
The research group studies social communications learning and play habits and skills in children and youth by measuring and using new communications media and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The group works on cutting-edge social sciences research lines and on top-priority research lines in human capital training and education in the Information Society. The group also works within the strategic area of opportunities and challenges arising from the media, new technologies and, in particular, internet, mobile telephones and video games, in the ever-changing present day.<br />Investigations are carried out through an open, ongoing multidisciplinary seminar aimed at analyzing the ways children and youth use and consume media when learning, playing and interacting socially and with other individuals, and as part of their culture.<br />Our research if focusing on the different ways young people interact through communications media and, in particular, through internet. Among other variables, the analysis looks at the relationship between time spent in face-to-face interactions vs. in virtual interactions; the variability of interpersonal relationships initiated online; the content young people use in their face-to-face and online relationships; the perceived intensity, suitability and trustworthiness of these relationships; creditability and trust based on the type of face-to-face or online relationship; and the different ways of perceiving communication.

Quantitative and qualitative research on online content consumption and posting habits.<br />Quantitative and qualitative research on content consumption habits in classrooms using mobile devices and on creation of content by students.<br />Compare how young people use communications media and ICT, based on the duration, order, frequency, time of day, content and assessment of their use. The work also aims to describe and define the social learning of young people through different media types and discover their collective social media imaginary through the use of communications media and internet.<br />Analyze the way children, young people and adults use and consume media in learning, play, culture and their social and interpersonal relationships.<br />Research, using neuroscientific techniques, of the use of ITC and the impact of interactive audiovisual content on millennials, Gen Z"ers, etc. <br />Areas of knowledge: Communications, Sociology, Psychology, IT and Neuroscience<br />
